The Book Is Coming
on Sep 15, 2009

Actually I never intended to write a book about my year of living like Jesus.  I was several months into my journey and I ate lunch with one of my friends who works at Zondervan. I was telling him about the first several months of my journey and he suggested that I consider writing a book about my experience.  So I was several months into the journey before I even considered writing about it.

So now that the book is coming out, I am very excited and nervous.  Sometimes  the more "nervous" part outweighs the "excited" part. I explored Catholic, Orthodox and Episcopal prayer ideas.  I ate kosher and observe the Jewish feasts -- none of which are required of Christians.  I voted for President Obama even though I had always voted for a Republican.  I frequented the bar and drank beer.  And I did all of these things in my effort to follow Jesus teachings.

So for better or worse, the book is arriving in bookstores.  I am praying that people on the fringes of the Christian faith will pick up the book and read it- people who are interested in Jesus but not the church.  I am praying that they will read it and that they will be open to Jesus and his teaching.

Can't wait. What date will it be out?
    Question

Very excited about reading this book, but I was curious about the phrase "I voted for Obama" and living like Jesus. Far be it from me to assume the voting record of Jesus, but is it common sense to think he would not vote for someone so pro-abortion, even late term abortion? In reality I not sure he would want to vote for any of these guys, but that seemed pretty far out there.
Also, did they have Qdoba in Judea? smilies/smiley.gif

    Best wishes on the book

I must say you have had a positive impact on my life. I attended Calvery until you got sick, being a guest of my sister Kathy Lipscomb. When my life fell and I was broken, I remembered what you said and I was saved at Res Life church in Grandville. I now sing in the choir there and praise God everyday for what I have and try to stay positive. Thank you for being a light in my life.... I am sad about your illness, but God must have something great in mind for you in heaven......
Bless you and the light that shines through you from Jesus.
feasts belong to the Lord--not Jewish

Dr. Dobson, I have yet to read the book although I picked up a copy today. I noticed in looking at the picture on the jacket cover that you are wearing tzitzit. I also noticed that you are not wearing the "petil techelet" the thread of blue in your tzitzit so if you write me I will send you a set for you to wear. Another comment for your consideration regarding what you call the "Jewish Feasts". If you look at Leviticus 23 where all the "moedim/appointed times" are listed you will notice that the Hebrew letter "Lamed" is attached and that these are called the "Feasts belonging (lamed of possession) to the Lord" and not Israel or Jews. The Feasts are part of the big Biblical picture of what our G-d is doing so I ask for your reconsideration of these as Biblical Feasts belonging to our G-d and not Jewish Feasts. Email me and I will send you the techelet as commanded Numbers 15:37-41. shalom u'vrecha, brent emery
    reading the book

I am about half-way through the book and so far it's a great read. I do think it's important for those reading the book to realize that some of the things Dr. D is doing are from rabbinic tradition and are not technically "in the Bible". While much of the rabbinic tradition is based on the Tanach (Hebrew Scripture) some of it is not found there at all. I am glad that Dr. D went to Israel and keeps going every year as he really makes the point that being in "the Land" gives you are real sense of so many things you wouldn't see or experience otherwise. I am looking forward the second half of the book.
